ISO 19011 is the international guidance standard for management-system auditing. It governs how internal audits should be planned, conducted and reported. Every certified management system (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, 27001, 22301, 50001 etc.) requires an internal audit programme. This tool helps you plan it.
Minimum requirements: Every process / department must be audited at least once per certification cycle (typically annually for high-risk areas, every 2–3 years for low-risk). Auditors must be independent of the area they audit.
ISO 9001/14001/45001 require all processes to be audited within the 3-year certification cycle. High-risk or recently-changed processes should be audited annually; stable low-risk processes can be 2–3 yearly. ISO 27001 typically expects annual coverage of all Annex A controls.
No — ISO 19011 requires auditor independence. Auditors must not audit work they perform or directly manage.
Higher audit frequency on processes with more risk, complexity, change, or past nonconformities. ISO 19011:2018 §5.4.2 explicitly recommends this approach.
